Artisan Bread Class

Learn how to make beautiful loaves of wholesome sourdough bread in your own kitchen. We use just three ingredients in our sourdough bread: flour, water and salt. Each attendee will make their own loaf of sourdough bread with guided instructions and demonstrations. You will also receive a bread making starter kit with the basic supplies that you will need to get started at home.

During this full day workshop, you will learn:

  • How to make your own sourdough starter, the lifeblood of naturally leavened breads
  • The entire sourdough bread making process from autolyse, mixing, bulk fermentation, shaping, proofing and baking
  • Various dough shaping techniques
  • How to decoratively score your bread
 

Making naturally leavened breads is a very long process, often requiring a long, cold overnight proof. Because of this, each attendee will take their shaped dough home to proof overnight in your fridge and bake at home the next day. I will give several demonstrations for baking the bread in your home oven, so that you feel prepared to do it on your own. We will also practice shaping and scoring sourdough baguettes while our loaves are fermenting.

This workshop is geared towards beginner to intermediate bread bakers. Lunch and beverages will be included.

We invite you to Ubuntu Supper Club, a special South African dining and cultural evening in our home. Experience the rich and diverse culture through an exploration of South African food, history and what it means to practice Ubuntu – I am because you are

This will be an intimate dinner party featuring three courses, each from a different South African ethnic group, and wine pairings. Because we are not a restaurant, we do not charge as a traditional restaurant would. You are welcome to make a donation to help cover the ingredient cost and time invested. Our suggested donation is $75-$100, which includes a three course meal and wine pairings. While we do offer a suggested donation, please donate what you feel comfortable donating.

If we become fully booked, we will open up a wait list in case of cancellations.

Join Kuluntu Bakery for a sourdough pizza party! In this social class, we will make naturally leavened pizza and focaccia and feast on it together.

During this class, you will learn:

  • How to make your own sourdough starter, the lifeblood of naturally leavened breads
  • How to mix, ferment, proof and bake your two doughs

This workshop is geared towards all levels of bakers/cooks and makes for the perfect date night activity. We will dine on our freshly baked focaccia, pizza and salad. Beverages will be included. Each attendee will take home a sourdough starter and recipe packet.
